Silverado Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) 2011

Silverado Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) 2011: Dark purple-black color; dark fruit, olives, tobacco hint on the nose; bit thin with intrusively tangy acidity on the palate,

thin cherry, capsicum, herbal elements; dry, medium body, gnarly tannin, disjointed finish. Air helps smooth some of the rough edges, but this is not easily delicious wine; it is austere, lacks fruitiness and balance. People who don’t like cab will really not like this one. Silverado does better in other vintages of this effort and in their higher end bottles. I don’t enjoy writing negative wine reviews and always strive to find positives, but this is a stretch, particularly at this price point. This certainly is not undrinkable, but where is the famous Napa-cab mouth-filling joy? Simply does not deliver the sort of pleasure you expect for the price. Better luck next vintage, alas. $41
