Dry; some dense tannic bite; a touch rustic; balancing acidity. Earthy, meaty, not for the faint of palate but will please those who enjoy a dark-fruit wine with an attitude. Carmignano is place where Leonardo da Vinci grew up, and Sancti Blasii was the name of the city in the 1200s. Super Tuscan blend of 70% sangiovese, 20% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot. Finished for 15 months in first and second use French oak barriques. 14% ABV

The makers have a deep history. Colline San Biagio Carmignano Sancti Blasii DOCG 2015 is earthy, assertive Super Tuscan. Loaded with dark fruit flavors. Brawny, rustic, makes a dark fruit statement from initial attack through the finish. Not suitable for novice red wine drinkers, but has things to enjoy is you are a Super Tuscan aficionado. Best paired with hearty food—steaks, barbecue, meat-lover pizza; pasta with meat balls and tomato-based sauces; meatloaf, burgers, assertive comfort food; lamb; aged cheese; cured meats—charcuterie tray. $20
